Pakon troubleshooting

The common problems and how to fix them.

The scanner isn't found.

Check it's switched on and the USB cable is in. Then press Load firmware on the Scan page; the scanner needs it every time it's switched on.

The scanner stopped responding.

Switch the scanner off and on again, then press Load firmware again.

A strip is stuck inside the scanner.

Press Advance film on the Scan page to run it out.

The scan came out dark or uneven at the edges.

Feed the film only after OpenPakon says "Motor running — feed the film now". Before that, OpenPakon is measuring the scanner's light, and film in the way spoils the measurement.

Windows says "Windows protected your PC".

The app isn't signed yet, so Windows warns about it. Click More info, then Run anyway.

My Pakon is an F-235 or F-335.

Those aren't supported. They're different machines inside.

The colours look off on black & white film.

For XP2 or BW400CN, choose B&W C41. For traditional black & white like HP5 or Tri-X, choose B&W.

I get an error in TLX or PSI.

Those are Kodak's old programs and we can't fix them. OpenPakon replaces them: see coming from TLX.

Still stuck?

Ask in the Pakon F-135 group on Facebook, where most Pakon owners talk. Someone has probably seen your problem before.

If it looks like a problem with the app itself, tell us what happened and attach OpenPakon's log file. It's a plain text file that records what the scanner and the app were doing. You'll find it here:

  • Mac: ~/Library/Logs/Pakon/pakon.log
  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Pakon\Logs\pakon.log
  • Linux: ~/.local/state/pakon/pakon.log
