Use your Pakon on Windows 11, no XP
A free app for the Kodak Pakon F-135 and F-135+ on a modern Windows PC. The scanner driver comes with it.
Why the old software stopped working
The Pakon's own software (TLX and PSI) and its driver were made for Windows XP. Newer versions of Windows won't run that driver, so people kept old XP laptops around just for the scanner. OpenPakon comes with a driver that works on Windows 10 and 11.
Install
- Download
Pakon-Setup.exeabove and open it. - If Windows warns you ("Windows protected your PC"), click More info, then Run anyway. The app isn't signed yet, which is why Windows doesn't recognise it.
- Say yes when Windows asks for administrator permission. That's the installer setting up the scanner's driver. It only happens once.
- Plug in the scanner with its USB cable, switch it on and open the app.
Then follow the guide to your first scan.
Updating
OpenPakon tells you when there's a new version. Quit OpenPakon and run the new installer. Your scans and settings stay where they are.
Questions
Does it work on Windows 11?
Yes, on Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit.
Do I need Kodak's old scanner driver?
No. The Pakon installer sets up the scanner's driver itself. If Kodak's driver was installed, it replaces it.
Windows says the app is unknown or unsafe. Is it?
The app isn't signed yet, so Windows shows a warning for any new app like it. Click More info, then Run anyway. The source code is public for anyone to check.
Why does it ask for administrator permission?
To install the scanner's driver. It only asks once.
Can I run TLX (TLXClientDemo) on Windows 11?
TLX was made for Windows XP and its 32-bit driver, so on Windows 10 and 11 it needs workarounds or a virtual machine. OpenPakon is a replacement that runs on Windows 11 as is. See coming from TLX.
Where do my scans go?
Into a folder called pakon in your user folder, one folder per roll. You can pick another folder in the app.
